The Mighty Indian Army stands tall with 13 Crops. Each corps serving its purpose dutifully to make the army stronger with each day. From Artillery to Infantry to EME to Signals the Indian Army’s corps has proved their potential when tested. The Corps of Signals serves the purpose of creating a channel for communication between the different units of the Organization. The Corps comprises of engineers from IT background which help in setting up a network for communication to take place when need be. Let’s closely look as why it was a necessity to create a different branch of Army which deals with networking.

Since the establishment of the Indian Army a need was felt to create such a unit which could help in communicating with other units of the Army. The corps of Signals was created in 1911 and proved its effectiveness during the first and the Second World War. Since then the Army has been modernizing the Corps of Signals by using state of the art technologies and working jointly with the DRDO and Bharat Electronics Limited to create software(s) which could help the army is surveillance, jamming of signals, interception, direction finding, and position fixing and prioritizing. One such command and control software which the Signals developed with the DRDO is the Samyukta Electronic Warfare System.

With the concept of modern soldier programs getting wheels, the Signals Corps would be blessing for the Armed forces, A major application of Signals Corps could be in The FINSAS (Future Infantry Soldier As System) Program which would help a soldier to connect to its fellow soldiers. The connection would be established by data transmission between the soldier’s suits about their whereabouts and this is where the Corps would play a major part.

The Signals corps acts as a force multiplier and has played major role in the various wars the country has faced. Though the Corps have done a commendable job over the years yet as there is always room for improvement in My suggestion the Government of India must take an initiative to collaborate itself with foreign defense organization like the US’s  DARPA, UK’s USTL and Russia’s FAR to keep themselves updated and move a leap ahead. Modernizing the Armed forces not just in means of weaponry but in ways where soldiers can connect with each other is the need of the hour. A stronger defense system would help the country make a string position among its counterparts. Also the new initiatives that the government is taking will help us building and increasing our capacity in multiple folds in coming time. So I am expecting a good increase in country production. We can initially harp on the developments by other countries but we have to develop the internal potential where people and youth like me and you can contribute.
